Emergency HVAC Service in Vancouver WA
Heating fails at night and in cold snaps, because that is when it is working hardest.
Our office is open Monday through Thursday, 8:00am to 5:00pm, and Friday, 8:00am to 4:00pm, and a call to (360) 891-2002 during those hours reaches a person. After hours, email info@tri-techheating.com with your name, address and the problem, and our on-call technician will reply by email or text with an ETA. Emergency rates apply.
Call us straight away if
- There is no heat and someone in the house is elderly, an infant, or medically vulnerable
- There is no heat and it is genuinely cold inside
- There is no cooling during a heat advisory
- Water is coming out of your equipment
- A commercial site is down
Call 911 first if
- You smell gas. Leave the building, do not touch light switches or your phone while inside, call 911 from outside, then NW Natural’s 24-hour line at 800-882-3377
- A carbon monoxide alarm is sounding, or people feel better outdoors than in. Everyone outside, then 911
- You see smoke, sparks or flame. Out, then 911
We will come. But the fire department is closer, and neither of us can help you from inside a building you should not be in.
Before you call
Two things worth thirty seconds, because they solve a surprising share of no-heat calls: check the breaker, and check the thermostat batteries and setting. If either was the problem you have saved yourself an emergency call-out.
What happens next
An on-call technician contacts you directly with an ETA. We do not quote emergency work over the phone, and beyond “emergency rates apply” we will not pretend to know what your job costs before someone has seen it.
Are your ducts the problem?

What counts as an emergency
Some of these need 911 before they need us. That distinction matters more than anything else on this page.
Call 911 first
- You smell gas. Leave the building, do not touch light switches or your phone while inside, and call 911 from outside. Then call NW Natural’s 24-hour emergency line at 800-882-3377. Call us once you are safe.
- A carbon monoxide alarm is sounding, or anyone has a headache, dizziness or nausea that improves outdoors. Get everyone into fresh air and call 911. Do not go back in until the fire department clears it.
- Smoke, burning smell, sparks or flame from equipment. Shut it off at the breaker if you can do that safely, get out, and call 911 if there is any fire.
Call us straight away
- No heat in freezing weather, particularly with infants, elderly or unwell people in the house
- No cooling during a heat wave, for the same reason
- Water pouring from a unit or water heater — shut off its water supply and kill power to it at the breaker first
- A system that keeps tripping its breaker
- Loud grinding, screeching or banging from equipment that is still running
- A commercial system down where the business cannot operate without it
Can usually wait for business hours
- One room uncomfortable while the rest of the house is fine
- Higher bills, or a system that seems less efficient than it was
- A noise that has been there for weeks
- Routine maintenance, or a system you want looked at before the season turns
If you are not sure which list you are on, call. Working that out is not something you should have to do alone at 2am.
What happens when you call
- The phone is answered. Outside office hours the answering service takes your details and reaches the on-call technician.
- Safety first. If what you describe needs 911 or the gas company before it needs us, you will be told that immediately rather than booked in.
- A technician calls you back. We will not promise you a specific time on the phone, because a time we invent is a time you will wait for.
- Diagnosis and repair. You hear what failed and what it takes to put right before work starts.
While you wait
- No heat: close off unused rooms, keep curtains shut, and check the thermostat batteries, the breaker and the filter. Never use an oven, grill or unvented fuel heater for warmth — that is how carbon monoxide incidents happen.
- No cooling: shut blinds on the sun side, run fans, and if the unit is iced up turn it off, because running it keeps the ice growing.
- Water leak: water supply off at the unit, power off at the breaker.
Related work
Once the immediate problem is handled: furnace repair, AC repair, heat pump repair, water heater repair or venting. Most emergencies we attend were avoidable, which is the honest argument for regular maintenance.

Emergency service questions
Is someone really answering at 2am?
The same number is answered 24/7. Outside office hours it reaches the answering service, who take your details and get the on-call technician.
How fast will someone arrive?
We will not give you a number on this page. It depends on the call volume that night and where you are, and a promise made here is one you would hold us to at the worst possible moment.
Do you charge more after hours?
The office will tell you what an after-hours call involves when you ring. We do not publish rates, and we are not going to imply there is no difference.
Should I call you or 911?
Gas smell, CO alarm, smoke or fire — 911 first, every time. We are the call after you are safe.
Do you cover commercial as well?
Yes. See commercial HVAC.
